Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Spring/Summer session of Stewards of the Future!
Stewards of the Future provides funding and support for educators to take students on field trips, to visit local sites of interest, and to engage in stewardship and sustainability projects in their communities. Funding of between $200 and $800 per class/application can be used for bus transportation, field project materials, equipment, field guides and supplies, such as a pH meter, nets, plants, shovels and next boxes. It can also be applied to an honorarium for an outdoor field trip leader or a program fee as well as teacher release time.
Secondary schools, youth groups, and individuals aged 14-18 can apply for funding and get resources and support for stewardship research and activities in British Columbia. Application deadline is Feb. 28, 2018.
The Stewards of the Future program reflects Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon’s long-standing connection to the land and the importance of biodiversity. Its purpose is to promote the concept of a holistic approach to our endeavors based on respect, and the responsibility of all for the future. Stewards of the Future encourages and supports secondary-school youth to get outside and explore their own communities to discover and document unique attributes, identify and research key issues of concern, and investigate stewardship initiatives.
