The Lieutenant Governor’s role in our system of governance provides her a unique platform from which to:
• Promote democratic and economic literacy
• Encourage appreciation for our public institutions and our professional, non-partisan public service
• Ensure all British Columbians and all Canadians have a solid understanding of and respect for the foundations of good government
• Promote cross-fertilization of opinion among leaders from government, business and civil society
• Encourage courteous dialogue and informed decision-making based on shared facts and agreed principles of engagement
• Encourage young people — our next voters on whom we must depend to lead future governments at every level — to gain a better understanding of parliamentary processes of our courts and the wonderful public servants who give so selflessly of their time
• Promote organizations that provide non-partisan support for our parliamentary democracy in the spirit of community and good relations, such as the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, Royal Roads University, the University of Victoria and other academic institutions, the Trust for Sustainable Living, the Youth Parliament and Legislative Interns
